What are the causes of neck pain?
Neck pain can be caused by a variety of reasons. Poor posture (often through work or sleeping positions) is a common culprit, but other reasons can include trauma, injury, a virus or conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. If you’re concerned about your symptoms or are experiencing severe neck pain, be sure to follow NHS guidance and visit your GP.
How can osteopathy help with neck pain?
Our Ilkley clinic has helped a variety of patients suffering with neck pain, alleviating symptoms such as stiffness and muscle strains, facet joint issues and repetitive strain injuries. Osteopathy works by treating the condition through various manual therapy techniques, such as manipulation, stretching and massage. Most importantly, we’ll work with you (and, where applicable, your GP) to tailor your treatment to suit your individual needs.
At your first appointment, we’ll discuss your overall health and medical history so that we can understand the symptoms you’re experiencing, what you’re hoping to achieve and what’s important to you. We’ll also observe and examine your mobility and posture, provide initial treatment and follow-on exercises.
Still not sure if osteopathy is the right treatment for your neck pain? Get in touch with our team of osteopaths for an informal chat and to discuss your specific requirements. You can also find out more about Felicity and Jacqui (our two qualified Ilkley osteopaths) via our meet the team page. We look forward to welcoming you into the clinic!
